American workers age 55 and up have been hit particularly hard by recent job losses, according to a recent CareerBuilder survey reported on the Harvard Business Publishing blog.
The survey also found that:
- 28 percent of those over 55 who were laid off in the last year found new jobs, compared to 71 percent of those ages 25 to 34.
- 63 percent of laid-off employees over 55 said they had applied for positions below the level of their previous jobs.
- 44 percent have been told by prospective employers that they are overqualified.
